New York

Hogansburg -- This cam is of a bridge on the St. Regis River. It's huge, but grainy and a bit off-color -- especially compared to the beautiful still shot below the real-time video. It doesn't show anything earth-shattering, either; just a bridge, some cars and water.videobug +

Manhattan -- Normally, a street intersection shot is boring unless it's in New Orleans or ... someplace like ... Manhattan! Updated once a minute, the corner of 5th Avenue and 45th Street seems teeming most of the time. It's a crisp, clear shot the oozes bustle. Worth videobugvideobug +. Sure, nice, but it's still a street corner.

Manhattan -- This is a picture taken down onto Rockefeller Center and includes that well-known skating rink. Funny angle doesn't show all of the rink. videobugvideobug

Manhattan -- Shot of part of the Manhattan skyline or across the river to Jersey City, New Jersey from what appears to be a very tall building. It's difficult not to be drawn to a skyline that seems to include all types and sizes of buildings and go on forever. videobugvideobugvideobug

Manhattan -- Another shot of a slice of the Manhattan skyline, this one from the 77th floor of a World Trade Center tower. Image appears washed out, if I know my urban landscapes, the Empire State Building is usually pictured on the left. All that is missing is a .gif of King Kong on the side. videobugvideobug + (lr)

New York City -- This live view includes sound to get the full effect of traffic jams and honking cars on a street corner in downtown New York. I have no idea what street corner it is, but the streaming video plus the sound effects make for a real live New York experience. Pretty dark at night, but you can still make out some of the action. Unfortunately, it's for Netscape users only, which always irks me. But for the full multi-media experience, I'll give it videobugvideobug +.

New York City -- Here's a unique cam! The Taxicab Cam. You never know where it's going to take you ... hop along for a ride in the world's first online taxicab! The CabCam is only live Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST, which is a downer, but it when it is live it updates about every minute. Quality is pretty good and versatile shots and concept alone give this cam bonus points, but lack of live time bring it down to videobugvideobug. (lr)

New York City -- Here's a self-updating, speedy shot of the Brooklyn Bridge. This is unique in that in the foreground is an expressway with cars blurring by with every update and an impressive bridge span in the background. Image is fairly sharp and the colors are rich. Pretty nice, and give you the feeling of being in NYC. Worth videobugvideobugvideobug

New York City -- Here's an impressive page from a company obviously serious about its webcam. Sitting high atop an extremely tall building, this camera must rotate or there are three because this page offers a 'quick click' to three different views from atop a tall city skyscraper. One shows a crowded Manhattan, another is a vista shot looking south and the last is a close up of several neighborhoods with a river in the background. Each view pops up in a separate window. What's not to like? Worth videobugvideobugvideobug + -->

New York City -- Well, you can't get much more American than this picture of the Statue of Liberty. There's no info on how often it's updated, but it's large and mighty impressive when it downloads onto your screen. You feel as if you're flying in a helicopter because you are actually peering down onto this massive symbol of America's roots. A bit washed out, but it's framed by the teeming feel of New York City, including the Bayonne Bridge in the background. Very impressive, and, with a higher-quality camera, easily a four-cam shot. But still, it's worth videobugvideobugvideobug + as it stands.

Syracuse -- Two cams offered on this site -- one of Clinton Square and one of Marshall Street. You get your choice of hooking up to 20 second updates or going for the full monty with streaming video (Real Video needed). The Clinton Square cam is especially nice, offering a great nighttime view with cars passing by, the lit square and buildings in the background. Marshall Street -- the student hangout just off the Syracuse University campus -- isn't quite as interesting, but a clear, crisp image keeps this rating up for both cams. videobugvideobugvideobug +

Times Square Yes, this Disney-fied historical district gets its own header. It's a shot from high up, looking down, and will loop several frames for a video-feel and updates on its own. Certainly gives you the feel that you are hiding out somewhere, peeking onto a slice of the Big Apple. It shows a ribbon-like street stretching between tall, scrunched-together buildings. There are also four other cams on this site to choose from, but I consider those extraneous ... the real deal is what I've linked above. videobugvideobug +

West Bellport -- This shot could easily be from Florida, San Francisco, Seattle or anywhere else there is a massive bay. Looking out toward the horizon, this shot really is a bit romantic -- especially at sunrise or sunset. It really almost sends a chill through you akin to that cold, biting wind that comes off deep pools of water. However, the water is all there is to see here. videobugvideobug.
