Minnesota

Buffalo -- This shot provides a wonderful perspective of a small town about one hour west of Minneapolis that wraps around a quintessential Minneapolis lake -- in this case Buffalo Lake. There's an road intersection in the foreground, and a sloping hill down to the lakeshore. It's the kind of town that metro residents head to on a weekend to hunt for antiques. Proportion is nice, quality is solid, and with updates every 20 seconds how can you beat it? Very impressive for what is a medium-sized rural-esque city. Worth videobugvideobugvideobug

Burnsville -- This is a shot from the base of a run at Buck Hill, a ski resort in the southern part of the Twin Cities. It's kind of a dark shot, and really doesn't show much, giving us more hill than sky. Worth videobugvideobug

Duluth -- I'm a bit biased here, since this is one of my favorite towns in all the world. Taken from high, and looking down, this camera shows an intersection in the foreground, with majestic Lake Superior in the background. A bit hard to make out the buildings, but you definitely get a feel for the lake if you haven't seen it before. There is also time-enhancement which sends cars through the intersection, which adds a slight appeal. All in all, worth videobugvideobug +

Lake Minnetonka -- Here's a sky view of the lake in the middle of the city -- complete with a busy highway. The picure is rather light and a bit blurry, but otherwise it's a good shot. videobugvideobug (lb)

Lake of the Woods -- This has to be among the northern-most spots in the United States. It's a massive lake which is strangely split between Minnesota and Ontario (that "point" at the top of Minnesota). This site used to only offer a picture of the lake -- which, when viewed you really feel like you're sitting on a back porch, listening to nature's sounds and the "lap, lap, lap" of lake waves. Now, they offer an eagle cam as well. It doesn't seem to update regularly though, and the lake cam is a bit blurry. Those drawbacks pull down (for the meantime) an otherwise high rating to videobugvideobug

Minneapolis -- This "Robocam" is brought to you by Channel4000.com. You can select any of five different shots of Downtown Minneapolis and then move the cam around. It's a very cool feature and easy to navigate. videobugvideobugvideobug + (lb) Minneapolis -- Here's a shot from the University of Minnesota campus. It started out as one of those construction shots, and now is just a shot of the new Gateway alumni center on campus. It's unfortunate the subject is ... well ... boring because the page automatically refreshes every 20 seconds and the camera quality is excellent. Sharp and true ... That quality scores points around here, even if the subject is a bit of a yawner ... videobugvideobug.

Minneapolis -- Here's a picture of the University of Minnesota campus from the East Bank. It includes the student center on the left and looks west across the river. It's too far away to make out any specific people, but you can make out the walking bridge across the river and the skyline of Downtown Minneapolis in the background. It's a fairly clear picture, yet it's not extremely interesting. Still, I'll give it videobug videobug. (lr)

Rochester -- You can tell this 'Tower 10' shot is from a TV station and is used for weather casts or for a news program. When it's not 90% sky, it's looking down at some flags or a sidewalk. But, hey, it's still a solid picture. Sharp and to the point. What the hey, I'll shoot the moon and give this one top billing. videobugvideobugvideobugvideobug

St. Cloud -- This is a shot of the now-constructed University of St. Cloud library. Thought it's not very exciting, it's a quality shot. As a sidenote, it seems that the site was a cemetery for settlers. Anyway, the picture is sharp and worth checking out. Worth videobug +

St. Paul -- Here's a shot of Minnesota's capital city from Channel4000.com. This St. Paul shot epitomizes the city -- urban, yet historic, with a flavor all its own.videobugvideobug + (lb)

Wabasha -- Here's a peaceful view of the mighty Mississippi that's almost in real time -- not that you can tell, unless there's a car driving past. Even so, it's a nice landscape shot with a quality camera. videobugvideobug + (lb)
