Boston -- A cool campus cam with a streaming image that overlooks Boston University's Marsh Plaza and Commonwealth Avenue. Watch the flags blow in the wind and students (just tiny specks from this distance) saunter by. You can choose to view a small or large image and opt for low or high quality. It's very cool ... the best campus cam I've seen in a while. Worth ++ Boston -- A breathtaking shot of this historic city, located atop a financial building in downtown Boston. Don't go if you get vertigo. The quality is definitely there, sharp with rich color and the proportion is nice. The tall buildings don't dominate, but definitely stick out and there is a vista behind it. Camera can rotate 360 degrees and zoom in or out. Click on the image for a larger view ... very nice, worth every bit of the rating. Cape Cod -- This camera appears to be practically real-time, updated every five seconds or so, facing Hyannis Harbor. You just log on and sit as it updates itself. Pretty impressive. There's some docks, shoreline and, in the late afternoon, the sun shining right into the camera. Gentle and soothing site, well worth +. There's a sister camera at Sagamore Bridge in Massachusetts, but it's nothing but a stretch of road. Boring. There's a third camera in this real-time triad at Craigville Beach that's a little better in that you can see waves breaking and during the summer you'd see people ... Dedham -- For a different look at New England, check out the Dedham, Mass., weather cam. It's a view of a tree-filled rural (perhaps suburban) neighborhood that exudes peace and quiet. It almost makes me want to abandon city living altogether. And, athough very large, it's not too exciting. There's very, very little movement. + (lb) Nantucket -- Nantucket Live Cameras. If you're at all interested in this area, you'll like the three real-time cameras offered at this site. And when I say real-time I'm not kidding -- You can see boats float by in the Harbor Cam and cars whiz by in the Nantucket Cobble Cam. You really get a feel for this quaint little town. You'll need a real player plug-in, which is available for download on the page. It takes a minute to download the images, but it's worth it. + Provincetown -- Here's one of those relatively new, fun sites that blankets an area with several cameras, rotates between them, each offering a "videoesque" shot updated every second or so without having to reload the entire page. Very nice and very picturesque views of harbors, docks and boats. Some shots are blurry, others sharp, some with action, others with vista. A nice, broad variety of shots. +
Springfield -- This is a better shot, although a bit washed out. The picture it toward West Springfield across the Connecticut River and shows the downtown with a beautiful bridge in the foreground. Very peaceful, very nice. Solid proportion, nice location. Well worth a trip. ... Though now that I revisit the site, it's a cam of a newsroom. Hmm. .
