Kimiko

"Life is a full circle, there is always a beginning and an end, it is what you do in the middle that counts." -- Alpha Chi Omega

Such is the personal credo for Kimiko Tanaka, today's fastest rising female sports reporter. Currently seen every weekend on KCBS's Sports Central, a phenomenal two-hour sports show, Tanaka enjoys the status of being the only female sports reporter on the CBS Sports Central Team, and having won the 1999 "Best Anchor Team" award from the Southern California Sports Casters Association here in the number- two market in the country; Los Angeles.

A commitment to fitness has been with Tanaka from an early age. Best known to television audiences as host of ESPN's Body Shaping, Tanaka began her career in front of the camera grooming herself for her future dream job as the top female sports reporter in the country. Three years and 196 shows later, Tanaka chose to broaden her horizons, leaving Body Shaping to continue on the path of her ultimate goal. In the fall of 1998, Tanaka landed the coveted spot as the only fitness reporter in Los Angeles on the KCBS Morning News. Seen every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Tanaka's energetic personality was an integral ingredient towards boosting KCBS' ratings and winning a 1998 Emmy.

Tanaka has spent her entire life in athletics. At the early age of 13, she qualified for the Junior Olympics in synchronized swimming, taking home a 4th place medal. A few years down the road, Tanaka decided to compete in her first fitness competition. Not one to take baby steps, she went straight to the top national shows in the country, the Miss Fitness America contest, bringing home a 7th place win and the Miss Galaxy competition capturing 8th place. Her love for sports took Tanaka in yet another direction, as a Los Angeles Raiders cheerleader, where her interest in football and other sports turned into a career commitment on the brink of being realized at this moment. Tanaka's half Native American Indian, half Japanese heritage has made her a stand out in the fitness and reporting worlds. With striking looks and a sculpted physique, her motto to "make the most of every day" is passed on to all who follow her sports reports. Always striving for perfection, Tanaka has made a personal commitment to contribute to making life better for everyone.

A graduate of California State University at Fullerton, Tanaka has a B.A. in Theatre Arts with an emphasis on acting and is currently continuing her education at UCLA in the school of broadcasting, continually finding a way to broaden her broadcasting and writing skills. An avid golf enthusiast, Tanaka plays in several celebrity tournaments a year. In her very rare spare time, Tanaka devotes herself to several charitable causes including co-chairman for the City of Hope "Workout for Life," the Coalition of Women Against Domestic Violence, the Nikkei Festival for the Japanese community, and she makes herself available for appearances at the Navajo Nation Fitness Fair, encouraging Native American Indians to lead healthier lives.

Savoring her ability to reach the masses and teach everyone something about life, Tanaka's star has only just begun to shine on this planet and in the world of sports reporting.
